The Adventures of the Little Gray Cat and the Flounder

Back around 1970, I drew a little book about the Adventures of the Little Gray Cat, and how she had traveled to the Great University and then become a Botanical Librarian.  It was a one-time little booklet.

A month or so later we moved, and had to buy a refrigerator and stove.  A major investment for us in those days.  So I drew a picture of the Little Gray Cat sitting smugly on top of a refrigerator.

That one cartoon started a series that has run now since 1970, and has cartoons numbering in the thousands.  In recent years, I've started doing them in PowerPoint, using (usually heavily-edited) clip-art or images downloaded from the Web.  This is the root page of the online collection.

Dramatis Personae

The Little Gray Cat (Felix pulla minora)

One of the cleverest of the species of Gray Cats (one of the few that has a Ph.D.), the Little Gray Cat exhibits occasional moments of dimness, many of which exist only in the fevered imaginations of Flounders), which form the basis of a series of cartoons in which she is the lead character.

The Supuflourous Flounder (Paralyctus supuflourousus)

Her companion is these adventures is The Supuflourous Flounder, a creature prone to literal interpretations of statements (when they provide humor value).  Flounders think of themselves as exceedingly clever, whether this opinion is justified or not.

Collywobbles (Collywobblus supernumerarius)

The most popular supernumeraries of the cartoon series, these little creatures are characterized by the fact that they easy to draw.  They evolved when Gray Cat had mentioned that the anticipation of some public talk was giving her a case of the collywobbles, so a plate showing these little creatures emerging from a box (to the dismay of the Gray Cat) came about.  They solve our need for assistants.
