Because there was a thought that she might have an infection, three staples were removed while she was in the ICU.  This left a gaping hole in the middle of the incision.  On the day she was unstapled, the incision had a hole 3cm in length, 1cm wide and 3cm (that's 1³/₁₆") deep.
