I am the ruler of the library

To the tune of "I am the ruler of the sea" from H.M.S. Pinafore by Gilbert & Sullivan

I am the leader of the li-brar-y

(And a right good leader, too!)

You’re very, very good,
and be it understood—
I command a right good crew!

(We’re very, very good,
and be it understood
she commands a right good crew!)

Though I have a good M.A.
From the best school (so they say!)
And I’m working on my Ph.D.
I never, never quail
at such work as I entail.
And I never use O-C-L-C

(What never?)

No, never!

(What, never?)

Hardly ever!

(Hardly ever does O-C-L-C
So give a cheer,
or two or three,
for the jolly leader
of the library
So give a cheer,
or two or three,
for the leader of the library)

I do my best to occupy you all

(and we have no ar-gu-ment)

You’re exceedingly adept
and I hope you will accept
my sincere compliment!

(We’re really quite adept
and we certainly accept
your sincere compliment)

Though I’ll get my Ph.D.
Still your leader I will be
You will not be forsook
The library I love
The job fits me like a glove
Though I never catalog a book.

(What never?)

No, never!

(What, never?)

Well, hardly ever!

(Hardly ever catalogs a book!
So give a cheer,
or two or three,
for the jolly leader
of the library!
So give a cheer,
or two or three
for the leader of the library)
